Moderator:

Steve Griffiths is Senior Vice President for Research and Development and Professor of Practice at the Khalifa University of Science and Technology. At Khalifa University, he oversees the development and implementation of the university's research strategy and operations. Among his activities external to Khalifa University, Dr. Griffiths is advisor to the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, a Zayed Sustainability Prize Selection Committee member, a member of the Dubai Future Council on Energy and an elected member of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee.

He is also Associate Editor and Editorial Board member of Elsevier's international journal Energy Strategy Reviews, Associate Editor and Editorial Board member of Springer's international journal Energy Transitions and a non-resident Fellow of the Payne Institute at the Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Griffiths holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Speakers:

Mark Finley is the Fellow in Energy and Global Oil at Rice University's Baker Institute. Before joining the Baker Institute, Finley was the senior U.S. economist at BP, where he led the production of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy, the world's longest-running compilation of objective global energy data. He also was responsible for the company's long- and short-term oil market analysis, and he led the global oil market and transportation sector analyses for the long-term BP Energy Outlook. Prior to joining BP, Finley was an energy security analyst the Central Intelligence Agency.

Finley is a USAEE Senior Fellow; he has held leadership roles in the IAEE/USAEE, the National Association for Business Economics, and the Conference of Business Economists. Finley is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan and holds graduate degrees from Northwestern University and the George Washington University.

Kenneth B. Medlock, III is the James A. Baker, III and Susan G. Baker Fellow in Energy and Resource Economics and Senior Director of the Center for Energy Studies at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, Co-Director of the Masters of Energy Economics program, and Faculty Chair of EEI. He is a Distinguished Fellow at IEEJ, Fellow at KAPSARC, and on the Advisory Board of the Payne Institute. Medlock is widely published, has testified multiple times on Capitol Hill, spoken at OPEC, and speaks frequently at venues around the world. He received his Ph.D. in economics from Rice University in May 2000.

Morgan D. Bazilian is Director of the Payne Institute and Professor of Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines. Previously, he was Lead Energy Specialist at the World Bank. He has over two decades of experience in energy, natural resources, and environmental policy, security, and international affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in energy analysis and was a Fulbright Fellow. He is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
